Hear the perspectives of Smart City Champions in municipalities.
The Ethical Smart City project recognizes the impetus of the different voices of the community in developing ethical solutions. The Ethical Smart City Framework champions these voices with a strong feedback loop built into the process and tools that facilitate the co-creation of ethical solutions.
To develop this project, the cohort listened to the voices from municipalities and have documented them in this section. Primary research played an important role in helping create the Ethical Smart City (ESC) Framework and this project. Municipal leaders were chosen as our primary audience as they are actively involved in creating programs and policies to help people within their communities. They are also often the champions for smart city plans in their municipalities. In its current iteration, as of May 2020, the majority of voices documented by the project are those of Canadian municipal leaders, who shared the aspirations and anxieties of their communities.
As the project grows in scope and receives feedback from being applied to different Canadian and global municipalities, we hope that more voices will be added to the discourse – including champions for the voices of the vulnerable within the community development and city planning space.
